Academic Support & Writing Centers

  1. ​​​Tutoring sessions are by appointment. They should be scheduled more than 24 hours in advance using the Center’s website https://stanly.libguides.com/asc. Sessions are 60 minutes. Students may sign up for more than one session per week, but students may not sign up for multiple sessions in the same subject on the same day. Walk-in tutoring may be available on a first-come-first-served basis.
  2. Students receiving seated tutoring must sign-in upon entering the Center and sign-out upon leaving. Students must provide their Stanly Community College student ID number before tutoring services.
  3. Tutors will not do the work for the student and Tutors will not assist with quizzes or tests Tutors will demonstrate skills and concepts, provide suggestions and ideas, and help identify weak areas where students need to improve.
  4. Peer tutors must maintain a 2.5 GPA and have received an A or B in courses for which they tutor. The course’s instructor may be contacted for a recommendation.
  5. Students approved for accommodations through the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) may receive additional services as directed by and coordinated through the office of the Director of Counseling and Special Services.
  6. After a tutoring session is over, the student is not allowed to interrupt their tutor while they are in a session with another student. Please see the lab assistant or the Coordinator if additional assistance is needed.
  7. If you are unable to meet for a scheduled tutoring session, you may reschedule or cancel your session via the appointment confirmation email, or you may contact us at 704-991-0210 or email tutoring@stanly.edu. Students missing 2 scheduled appointments in a row without contacting the Center will have their reoccurring appointments canceled.
  8. Tutoring is available free of charge for all students. Tutoring modalities include: one on one seated sessions, one-on-one virtual sessions, group sessions, and online tutoring via Brainfuse accessible through Canvas. Assistance by telephone may be provided at the discretion of the Coordinator, depending on the material to be discussed, and the availability of a tutor.
  9. Students must comply with the Computer and Network Use Policy and the Student Code of Conduct Policy while using the Academic Support Center.
  10. Any questions, concerns, or suggestions regarding your tutoring session, the Academic Support Center, or the tutoring services offered by Stanly Community College should be reported to:
